Stop looking at me, Swan

I read the first Twilight book. Someone at work lent me the first two in the series.

I became quite engrossed in it and did enjoy reading it. It's an interesting story, especially since I traditionally stay far away from science-y fiction of any sort. I usually stick to c. lit, which I can finish in a day or two, return to the library, and get on with my life.

I'm inclined to agree with Stephen King on the writing style. I was stifling laughter for the first half of the book due to the sentence structure. It is semi-colon city; it's time to split some - probably most - of those babies into two sentences already.

The solo short sentence in one paragraph can also hit the trails.

I'm probably out of my element in even discussing this, based on my educational background, but it just seemed like a weird way to create drama. (If you're interested to see what I'm talking about, a draft of the first novel, re-written from the perspective of the vampire boy, was leaked to the internet.)

At the same time, these books weren't written with my age bracket in mind. Teenagers (and pre-teens?) probably think and write like that. I believe I suffered a short love affair with semi-colons back then myself, so I guess I'm being too harsh.

And because the books weren't written with my age bracket in mind... I have a feeling the plot is going to avoid certain elements and I may find myself searching the WPL for vampire novels written for, uh, adults, shall I say. I know there's a glut of Twlight fan fiction on the internet, but I'm hesitant to look at it after the terrible, terrible fan fiction I've read in the past. I once found a fan fiction story for Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and the plot summary said that one of the girl's sisters gets mugged at an Olive Garden. Seriously, an Olive Garden.

I can't see myself reading those books, although romantic trash is normally something I enjoy.

Then again, reading is a thing of the past now that I'm reading for edumacational reasons and not for fun anymore.
